Renewable Energy and Technology Indaba
What is the Renewable Energy and Technology Indaba?
Renewable Energy and Technology Indaba (RETI) is an annual one-week event hosted in South Africa that brings together multiple stakeholders from the civil, private, and public sectors under one roof to discuss the best practices in the deployment of renewable energy on the African continent.
Why a Renewable Energy and Technology Indaba?
Africa is endowed with an abundance of renewable energy resources that can be deployed to redress the triple challenges of inequality, poverty, and unemployment and environmental degradation-particularly though climate change adaptation and mitigation.
However, the successful exploitation of such energy resources requires financial investment, technological deployment, and good governance practices.
RETI offers an unique opportunity for various stakeholders involved in the various sectors in renewable energy deployment on the African continent to network, track changing trends, build relationships, make deals, and witness best practice in governance-with an ultimate aim of successfully delivering projects.
What makes the Renewable Energy and Technology Indaba stand out from other events?
The RETI’s format is very interactive and engaging with the participants of the indaba. RETI is focused on both hardware (technologies) and software (legislation & governance) issues in the renewable energy deployment on the African continent. It offers exhibition stalls for vendors that might include technology companies, contractors, and consultants from the environment and energy sectors.
What is Renewable Energy
Renewable Energy is energy generated from natural resources, which naturally replenished such as sunlight, rain, wind, rides and geothermal heat.
Wind Turbines
Wind turbines convert the kinetic energy in the wind into mechanical power or electricity.
Gas Turbine Renewable Energy
Uses Gas to power up a turbine that heats water turning it into steam. The steam is then passes through to a steam turbine which in return generates electricity.
Hydropower
The hydroelectric power plant uses a dam on a river to store water in a reservoir. The water released from the reservoir flows through a turbine, spinning it, which in turn activates a generator to produce electricity.
Solar Renewable Energy
Solar Photovoltaics
The use of solar panels to convert solar radiation to electricity.
Solar Thermal Systems
Seek heat from the sun to store and be used for other purposes for example Solar hot water heaters.
